The Arc Dining Chair by Vincent Sheppard is a dining chair with armrests, a tobacco-stained rattan frame and an upholstered seat. It gives a dining or meeting table a warm, crafted look.
Four steam-bent rattan strands flow into the legs, the frame, the armrests and the backrest as one continuous arch. The dark stain shows off the natural grain of the rattan, the 4 cm high-resilience foam seat cushion provides comfort and the felt glides protect your floor. Ask us for fabric samples for the seat.
The Arc was designed by Axel Enthoven, a Belgian designer born in 1947 who has been working since 1970. He graduated from the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven, studied at the Salesian Technical College in Tokyo and did traineeships in Germany, Poland and the Netherlands, including at General Electric in Cleveland, where he worked on the Apollo project. After his first years as a freelance designer for clients such as Leolux, Etap and Van Hool, he founded his studio Idea in 1976, which later became Enthoven Associates and merged with Yellow Window in 2001.
Enthoven is a designer who deliberately does not specialise. His work ranges from buses for Bova to the Brussels tram for Bombardier and Eurostar interiors, and furniture such as the Bora Bora seat for Leolux and Solium for Cor, both from 1982. He calls his starting point "total design": ergonomics, aesthetics and technical feasibility in balance, so that an object is as pleasant to use as it is to look at. For his body of work he received, among others, the Henry van de Velde Lifetime Achievement Award (2004), and he has won Red Dot and iF awards several times. His search for "the right line" can be recognised in the Arc: one continuous arch without superfluous details.
